Stop trying to believe in yourself, and create a fantastic life anyway.

Is it summer yet?  Or still, spring?  I am not sure, but the days are long, it is getting hot outside, and I am not self-conscious about wearing white pants.

I am also bringing back Elaine’s Blog! We discuss tips and brain tools to re-create yourself in a way that feels good.

Let’s talk about Self-belief.  For most of us, our belief in ourselves ranks pretty low.  Low confidence is the default mode for every human brain.  When you think about it from an evolutionary standpoint,  our brains are designed to keep us safe, which means that being brave and trying new things is NOT encouraged by our primitive brains. On top of that sobering news, whatever we are used to, no matter how miserable it is, that is what feels safe to our subconscious mind.  As a result, your subconscious does not want you to believe that change is possible.  Change feels scary.

I will go against the “life coachy” mantras out there that encourage us to “Believe in yourself”  I don’t know about you, but I am feeling a little too burned out to wrap my brain around this one. I worry that this mantra holds many people back from taking steps to help themselves.   If you want to start making lasting changes in your life and feel good about those changes, you don’t need some metric shift of belief.    You need to do the thing first, and then you believe you did it.    I love it when I hear clients say, “I didn’t think I could do this!”  It takes a minute to sink in.

Resetting your mindset does take patience.  We are now in this world of instant gratification, which is hard to compete with.   I know you realize that the path to lasting results means that you have to build integrity slowly.  It takes gradual and steady steps with guidance and intention.  Hypnotherapy helps speed up the process, which is nice since we have quick access to the subconscious brain. However, it still takes time.  When you change a habit, you are rewiring the neurons and patterns in your brain.  When you make a permanent change, you may have fun epiphanies along the way, but the more drastic changes are barely noticeable as they are happening.  It is like watching your children grow.  They don’t get from potty training to college suddenly. The same is for your brain.

Listen, you are completely capable of creating a life you love without believing in yourself. In fact, no one believes in themselves.  The winners are those that try anyway.

So now is the time to ask yourself,  If you could make one or two shifts in your life, what would that be?   Are you curious enough to even consider the first step in that direction?

Next week’s blog will detail the five steps you can take to start getting out of the habit of living your current life and into the life that feels so much better.

If you feel ready to make a full-bodied change in your life and have no idea where to start, you have to talk to me about my new program,  100 days to Total Transformation.  We work together to reach your goals and reset your underlying mindset.  Your time is precious, your life is essential, and what you contribute matters.  Start getting used to being intentional and investing in your life.
