You started smoking as a way to give the finger to the world. Authority tells you that you should not smoke, and to show “the man,” you decided to smoke. You may have a specific identity that attaches you to smoking. The key to helping you quit is to understand where this identity came from and decide if this still fits who you are at this stage in your life and if you do still want to keep this badass identity, train your brain how to do this without the cigarettes.
