The problem in our contemporary lives is not anxiety. The problem comes up when we feel shame or confused when we do have anxiety. We end up trying to push away that discomfort. Using meditation to push out or escape the emotion is a recipe for frustration.
burnout is not due to the amount of work we do. It is not due to working 12 hours or 24 hours in a row, but burnout is caused by the energy that fuels our work. This is so true! Part of the reason the doctor community is waking up jumping in is that before the pandemic, the burned-out doctor’s energy was fueled by just the need to pay the bills, and out of the hamster wheel, we just found ourselves on, vs now, during the pandemic, our energy being fueled by some communal calling to be a part of the global solution and some sense of purpose.
I want to share some ideas of how we can “fill our tanks” before we jump into the marathon. So I am not talking about healthy food, bubble baths, and exercise, which of course are important, but doing a little brain preparation is essential.

I know this sounds corny,( I can’t help it), but starting 2020 will be the year of clarity for me and hopefully for those I reach. The new year, of course, is a time for resolutions, and goal setting which, as a life coach, is the fuel and almost a religion. ...
One of the concepts that I learned from my life coach school, that I love, is the concept of a deck of cards. The concept goes like this…when we are born or conceived we are all handed a certain deck of cards. Some of us have the deck that creates curly or straight hair, or how tall we are, or what illnesses we develop with age. Everyone is a little different.
So what is your ecosystem like? This is the best part of life coaching with clients as we get to explore this and better yet, you get to intentionally decide what you keep and what you let go in your ecosystem. Is your ecosystem loving, embrace beauty, foster joy? Those are options that are already available to you.
Why are we doing this? There are as many answers as there are brains that have 60,000 thoughts a day. The trick is to pick the one thought you believe. Pick one thought, idea, mantra that drives you to create the life you want. What is your “Why”?
